Janani Suraksha Yojana Cash Assistance Under JSY
Urban area
For low-performing states, the government will provide ₹1000 to women and ₹200 to ASHAs.
A sum of ₹600 will be given to women and ₹200 to Asha for high-performing state.
Rural areas
An amount of ₹1,400 will be given to women and ₹600 to Asha for low performing state.
A sum of ₹700 will be given to women and ₹200 to Asha for high-performing state.
Some important information related to Janani Suraksha Yojana
- The scheme was launched on 12th April 2005.
- Janani Suraksha Yojana is run by the government in all the states and union territories of the country.
- The scheme is being implemented by the central government.
- The scheme will cover Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Odisha and Jammu and Kashmir.
- To get the benefit of this scheme, it is mandatory for the registered beneficiary to have a JSY card along with the MCH card.
- The list of beneficiaries will be mandatorily displayed on the display board at Sub Centre, PHC, CHC, District Hospital on the date of distribution.
- 4% of the fund can be used for administrative expenses.
- At least 2 willing private institutions in each block will be recognized for providing better services at the time of delivery.
- If the husband or wife gets sterilization done after the birth of the child, then in this case they will be provided compensation amount.
- In case of home delivery, an amount of ₹5000 will be provided. This amount will be provided only on the birth of 2 children. This amount will be disbursed by the government at the time of delivery or within 7 days of delivery.
- The maternity amount will be provided through this scheme for cesarean section. Apart from this, Rs 1500 will also be given.
- An amount of Rs 600 will be provided to the ASHA living with the pregnant woman. A maximum amount of ₹200 will also be provided. The government will also provide transport assistance of Rs 250 to ASHAs.
Features of Janani Suraksha Yojana 2023
- JSY has been implemented in all States and UTs, but the main target is to develop low performing States like Bihar, Orissa, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, MP, UP, J & K, Chhattisgarh etc.
- It is mandatory for every beneficiary registered under the scheme to have a Janani Suraksha Yojana card along with the MCH card.
- JSY 2023 is a 100% centrally sponsored scheme and it integrates cash support.
- The scheme has identified ASHAs as Accredited Social Health Activists.
- Pregnant women who give birth at home with the help of Anganwadi or ASHA doctors. Candidates will have to pay Rs 500.
- After the free delivery of the child, information is sent to them about the vaccination of the mother-child for five years and free vaccination is done.
- All women registering under Janani Suraksha Yojana 2023 will be given at least two pre-natal check-ups, absolutely free of cost. Apart from this, ASHA and Anganwadi workers will also be assisted in the post-delivery period with related services.
Monitoring of Janani Suraksha Yojana
- Monthly meetings will be held at the sub-centre level to monitor the scheme.

- Women should be living below the poverty line.
- The age of the woman should be above 19 years.
